Hola,

I hope August’s writing finds you in great cheer! Some of you must be struggling with the publication of your stories. Today I am inspired to write a blog explaining the five essential pillars of a basic blog post. If you follow these five steps there is a great chance your drafts will not face rejections from Publications.

1. The Title

‘’Don’t judge the book by its cover ‘’ is not applicable in the case of blogs!

We mostly click a blog enchanted by its Title. For most of us, the title of a blog is love at first sight, a title can also become the reason for rejection at first sight! So, friends pay attention to the title of your blog. The title conveys a great deal of information about the writer and his content. Spend some mindful time crafting a great title.

Normally, I start writing after I conceive a title as an idea. You can create your title after you write your entire draft also. Write at least five or six variations before you settle on one.

For example In this case I wrote down the following,

‘’ Four steps for a basic blog…’’

‘’ How to write an excellent blog every single time…’’

‘’ The four components of a great blog ‘’ etc.

From these, I picked the one which I felt most resonated with my idea for this story. After the title, you must have a small subtitle that will give the reader an idea about what they are going to read further.

I wrote the subtitle after finishing my first draft. Now, I wrote a kicker also. The kicker is the crux of the blog which is comprised of one or two words, which comes above the title in Medium blogs. For this story, the kicker is — ‘’Writing Tips ‘’.

Another important part of the title is the cover image. Take out time to choose an appealing cover image. You can design one on Canva, or if you are good at illustration you can make your own illustrated cover. I love the illustrated covers of Darius Foroux . You can see an example here :

2. Introduction

Time to introduce your story!

The first part of your story is the introduction. This part is also very important. Most readers read only the introduction before clicking another title. If the introduction is not compelling enough the rest of your work will remain unread. Make your introduction short, crispy, and interesting.

3. Content

Now is the time to tell your story. Do it without inhibition. Express your story in a few paragraphs in whatever format you choose. If you are writing a listicle, make sure you explain the listed points in a few words. Read your proof again, and make the necessary edits and corrections. Proofread your work using Grammarly or Hemmingway Apps. Don’t submit without proofreading. Once your story is published it goes out from your hands to the readers. So, make sure you spent enough time with your draft before submission. Once again, be reader-friendly. Use simple language and make it precise. Add enough white space between paragraphs. A well-spaced article is a joy to read. You can add images, quotes, and videos to enhance the beauty of your content. Always mention the image source.

4. Conclusion

Every story must end with a proper conclusion. We should not leave any loose threads in the story. The concluding paragraph should tie all the loose ends of the story. Like how most of the children’s story books end with ‘’ they lived happily ever after ‘’!

Now you are all set to press ‘’Publish ‘’! Not yet! Wait! Take a short break. Make a cup of zen coffee, or go for a shower, or whatever that suits you. Come back, and press publish with a calm mind. This will work wonders for your story.

‘’ There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you’’- Maya Angelou, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
